Any Gutter Cleaning Services in Linlithgow Scotland?

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

I’m looking for a reliable gutter cleaning service and have no idea where to look. Does anyone know of a company based near Linlithgow that offers this service? Does anyone have an idea what a reasonable cost for this sort of thing would be? I live in a mid-terrace house, so it’s really only a short length of gutter front and back.

Any advice greatly appreciated!
Hiya,

Unfortunately it’s not near Glasgow, much closer to Edinburgh (in fact about half way between Edinburgh and Falkirk, so businesses in these areas would be great). Thanks though!

Look up Donald Henderson in the Yellow pages. He is a chimney sweep that is based in the Alloa area.He cleans and repairs gutters, does roof repairs etc.

Eavestrough ( or Guttering ) Cleaning?

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

What is the best way to clean out eavestrough ? Looking for suggestions on tools and efficient way to get the job done easily. I’ve never done this before. I’m doing the job myself. Thank you !

My leaf blower has a gutter attachment that allows me to reach the gutters from ground level on a one-story house.

It does a great job, especially when the leaves are dry. It does almost as good a job when they’re wet, but being below the action under those circumstances is pretty messy.

I’ve also done it from the roof which is easier, less messy, albeit more dangerous.

Cleaning gutters/ siding SAFELY?

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

This weekend, a teenage boy and his mom (me!) will be on the roof cleaning leaves out of gutters, scrubbing the gutters themselves (algae) and using a powerwasher on siding.

We have a multi-level roof, and will be standing on a lower portion while cleaning the upper-level gutters at about head-height.

What safety equipment should I consider?

A friend who worked as a painter would set an empty bucket at the end of his scaffold platform, so that he would kick it BEFORE he walked off the end. So, I’ll do that, but what else?
Algae is on the outside of the gutters (from a year of the house sitting empty, and the gutters overflowing regularly)

We will be installing plastic gutter guards/ screens while we are up there, too. (Good ideas!)

If they are inexperienced on a roof, tie a safety rope to them and to a place that will hold them in case they do fall, they can grab it. It is a cheap way to save a leg.
If the roof is steep, they will need it anyway, but if not, that should be sufficient.
Also, be careful not to stream the pressure washer too fine, or it will pit the siding. A nice wide stream should do the job.
Good luck.

How often do you clean the gutter that your mind resides in?

Or do you like your mind to stay in the gutter?

Actually… now that I think about it? Y!A might be somewhat correct in their suggested category.

You know, I don’t think I’ve ever cleaned the gutter. My mind just sometimes hops out for a bath, then gets straight back in!

how do you clean out a clogged gutter downspout?

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

I cleaned out the top part, but the downspout part is running slow. I used the hose to flush it down, but it is still slow. The hardware store guy said that a plumbing snake might put a hole in the downspout. Any ideas of a tool that might work and where to get it? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you can stand on a ladder with the garden hose up over the top of the gutter, then down into the downspout as far as it will go — WITH SOMETHING HELD OVER THE TOP OPENING AND CLOSE UP AROUND THE HOSE TO SEAL THE WATER IN — it will blow the clog out. I have used this method, and it builds enough water pressure to move the clog out.
