Anyone have Leaf Relief by Alcoa?

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

I’m considering purchasing the Leaf Relief gutter guards by Alcoa for my gutters. I have severe issues with pine needles and leaves clogging up my gutters most of the year. My previous home had Leaf Guard which worked excellent but is too expensive for my new home due to the linear footage. I like the simplicity of Leaf Relief but it looks like it will retain a lot of pine needles before they dry out and blow away. I know there are dozens of different options out there but I want something I can have installed and forget. I also own a ranch home so options that fit under the first row of shingles don’t really appeal to me due to asthetics. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Leaf Relief is a good product. When we’ve installed it we put it on the gutter before we hung the gutter. So keep in mind you may need to take the gutter partially down if you need to get in there and clean it out, which shouldn’t be too often. We used it in place of the hidden hangers, so I don’t see how you could use it on existing gutters. It is probably the best for keeping pine needles out.
I would stay away from any kind of helmet. The water runs right over in a medium to heavy rain.

I have an idle sump pump. The well doesn’t seem to fill with water. I tried filling it. I use to go off all

of the time, however hasn’t gone off once since I’ve installed the high end gutter guards. My question is, would the gutter guards effect the sump filling with water? Or has the ground around my new home (house is new construction) settled?

That is fine, the water table just dropped since you got better gutters that drain the water away from the house.

My sump only gets water in it when we irrigate our fields. After we irrigate the water table goes back down.

What paperwork must I file to incorporate a business in Pennsylvania?

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

It is basically a handyman service. We paint, do landscaping, gutters and gutter guards, etc.

How much does incorporation cost, and what entity should I choose as best for me? LLC, etc?
Ok, does anyone recommend LLC? What are the associated filing fees in PA?

The Pennsylvania Department of state has a web site that should tell you everything you need to know about registering a business in PA:

http://www.paopen4business.state.pa.us/paofb/site/default.asp

It is difficult to tell you what entity to choose without more information, but a straight C corp would probably be the easiest.

is LEAFGUARD the only manufacturer of leafproof gutters or are there other brands?

I’ve researched and had gutter guards, mesh, etc. I have too many trees; and they need cleaning often in the fall; but it appears their style is fullproof; anyone use them? Are they worth the expense?

Leafguard actually still lets a lot of debris enter your gutter. Check out www.mastershield.com .
