Gutters -What is your opinion about various gutter systems?

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

There are many systems on the market and they all claim to be the better deal. My house is under lots of oak trees and the gutters usually have some leaves or spinners in them. Lately, we have been looking at the Leaf Guard system. It’s expensive, at 3500.00.

What is your opinion about this system? Is it the best on the market?

I looked at the Leaf Guard site. Around here, I’d still be cleaning needles out of the gutters with that, and the guard part would only get in the way. On my last house I had something called Rainhandler. It really worked. It’s not cheap but is far easier to install than conventional gutters. I would have installed it here but since I can reach most of my gutters from a stepladder or from the roof, cleaning isn’t a big deal here. If I had hard to access gutters I’d get it again in a minute.

how much does labor cost to install 70 ft. of gutters and gutter guards?

Hey there, Peggy!

You should get estimates upon which you can rely to make a decision. The rule of thumb is to get at least three–get them free, too.

Incidentally, here’s a great handyman site that has a section devoted to gutters and roofing. There, scroll down a bit and you’ll find a text-link kind of in the middle of the page that offers up to four (4) free estimates from gutter contractors in your area who would be in the position to provide you a free estimate of the cost of installing the 70 feet of gutters and gutter guards, all without obligation to you (the text-link says, "Find Roofing…Gutter Service Contractors. Get Up to 4 Quotes Now…Free"):

Getting many estimates is key to becoming an informed consumer seeking to avoid the wrath of roof/gutter contractors who choose to prey on the ill-informed consumer. Good luck!

What is the best and most economical product to keep rain gutters clear on a home?

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

I’m located in South Georgia and have to unclog my rain gutters several times a year. The Oak leaves on the several trees(water oaks) around my home are small in size and I’m thinking may clog typical "gutter guard" designs. The trees are great, but a pain. Does anyone have experience or knowledge of a product that would do the trick? Self installation is fine with me, I’m just tired of cleaning gutters out constantly.
