Clogged Downspouts

How many times have you had to clean out your downspouts because they were backing up and causing water to cascade off the roof? Everyone knows how time consuming this is because sometimes whatever is clogging your gutter up refuses to co-operate and free up. Short of taking the whole thing apart, you are trying everything you can think of to get the drain unclogged. Clogged gutters lead to clogged drain tiles and when that happen you can cause water to find a way into your home. It is never a good idea to have water sitting and pooling anywhere near your home.

One of the temporary ways to keep your downspouts clean are: the use of downspout guards, they are like baskets that go in your gutters to keep debris out. The problem with these are that once debris builds up around them they stop working.

Once your downspouts are clogged the best way to unclog the problem is by taking off the elbow and cleaning that out most of the time that is where we have found our clogs, you can also use a drain snake to loosen up debris but I only do this when I know it is not too much debris otherwise that will just find its way down to the drain tile and you want to keep the debris to a minimum down there.

What is the best solution? With the use of Gutter Guards you would not have this problem and you could be doing something you really wanted to do. Gutter Protection is the best way to keep your downspouts free from debris and water flowing. Our gutter guard filter product is about the best thing I have seen to keep your downspouts flowing because all that can get through the filter is water and small dust and dirt particles. This equals no more clogged gutters or downspouts.

Waterproofing the Basement

Let me ask you a simple question. Have you ever gotten an estimate on how much it would cost to water proof your basement? If not, you are in for a surprise or should I say a shock. This is an expensive undertaking and prices can be as much as $12,000. This is not in the average person’s budget. The major cause of water entering the basement is once again, improper drainage. There is no other way around the fact that you need to have a Gutter Guard system. The advantages and the money they will save when it comes to your home are unmatched. Gutter protection will be far cheaper to install than many of the problems you will have without it.

Soffit and Siding Replacement

It’s unbelievable the prices that are charged today for any kind of home repair. The price of everything except your paycheck keeps rising. What are you going to do? For one, maintaining your home is going to be far less costly than having to repair things several times. It is wise to install a gutter guard system to keep from causing more problems in the future.

Improper drainage will end up ruining the soffits and your siding. Buying the materials to replace the soffits and the siding is expensive enough. On top of that, unless you are willing to take the chance of falling off the ladder again, you will have to pay someone to repair your home. Gutter protection will help reduce this cost of home repair.

4 Good Reasons for Using a Gutter Guard

Friday, June 12th, 2009

The advantages of using a gutter guard may not be something you think of at all unless someone mentions it. This should be one of the priorities when you consider all the things that need to be done to keep your home in top shape. The following are a few advantages to consider if you do not have gutter protection for your home.

#1 Hospital Bills

Has this ever happened to you? You decide to clean out your gutters from all the leaves that have been falling and you are on the ladder. The next thing you know you are on the ground. Falls from ladders are one of the most frequent accidents around the home. Not only might this cause a serious injury – even if it is just a broken bone, hospital visits are expensive – but you could end up having to replace the gutter.

Gutter Guards for Copper Gutters (Part 3)

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

GutterSupply.com illustrates 15 different types and styles of gutter protection systems. Pictures of the different types and styles are provided. Clicking on any product name or photo will give you information that is more detailed. Six of these products are available in copper.

If you favor a screen-type unit, there are three different products from which to choose. If you have half-round gutters, the Half-Round Hinged Gutter Screen is available to fit 5-inch or 6-inch gutters. The screens come in 3-foot sections. The individual sections are easily fastened to the gutter with stainless steel clips, resulting in low installation labor cost.

A gutter screen will prevent all except rather fine material from passing into the rain gutter. However, some small bits of material may get stuck in the screen openings. Occasional cleaning may still be required, but at very infrequent intervals.
